Moto2, Remy Gardner on the trail of Kel Carruthers

Remy Gardner is the first Australian rider to take the Moto2 title and the second to do so in the intermediate class of GP racing together with Kel Carruthers in 1969.

Remy Gardner is the seventh distinct Australian rider to win a World GP with Casey Stoner (2), Mick Doohan (5), Kel Carruthers (1), Tom Phillis (1), Keith Campbell (1) and Remy’s father Wayne Gardner fetched (1).

With his father Wayne, who was crowned world champion in the 500cc class in 1987, they also become the second father and son to both become world champions, along with MotoGP legends Kenny Roberts and Kenny Roberts Jr.

At 23 years and 263 days, Gardner is the eighth youngest rider to win the Moto2 title, behind Alex Marquez (23 years and 194 days old).

With six wins in the intermediate class, Remy Gardner is the second most successful Australian driver in the intermediate class behind Kel Carruthers (7 wins).

Remy Gardner won five races in 2021, three fewer than his teammate Raul Fernandez. However, with Fernandez he has the most podiums in Moto2 this season with 12.
