MotoAmerica, Junior Cup 2021 to Tyler Scott, with rider Kayla Yaakov on the podium

The 2021 SportbikeTrackGear.com Junior Cup Championship ended on Saturday and Scott Powersports / KTM rider Tyler Scott claimed the title in the best possible way by also winning the race. The Pennsylvanian started from pole but was overtaken on the first lap by David Kohlstaedt of Veloce Racing Kawasaki. Scott offered his time in runner-up, and Kohlstaedt crashed in wet conditions on lap three of the seven-lap event, handing the lead over to Scott, who held it to the finish line.

Second place went to 14-year-old rider Kayla Yaakov, the BARTCON Racing Kawasaki rider who was the first female rider to land on a MotoAmerica podium since Jamie Astudillo finished third in the second race in 2018 at Road Atlanta.

Landers Racing Kawasaki’s Ben Gloddy, who to date had a mathematical chance of overtaking Scott for the championship, finished third. The New Hampshirite was handicapped by a broken wrist he sustained a few weeks ago.

When asked about the wet track, Scott said, “It was definitely a bit sketchy. Even more stressful because I just wanted to keep the bike on two wheels and score points for the championship. But I’m really happy with the result. Actually, I didn’t expect to lead most of the race. I thought David Kohlstaedt would lead the race. I would have let him win somehow just so as not to risk overtaking. But it was a great race and congratulations to these guys. “
