Ducati was, admittedly, one of the most competitive bikes in MotoGP throughout the 2021 MotGP season. However, he didn’t stop working on several new solutions for this year, as there were still a lot of rough edges to be filled out on the Desmosedici GP – as told by Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna.
The Italian official told the press that despite his enjoyment of last year’s bike, improvements needed to be made: ‘We were certainly very happy with the general behavior of the 2021 bike, but we had some performance gaps in some areas. It was very clear in last year’s races: for example, at Assen we had some performance problems to correct, above all in the high speed corners and in the entrances of the high speed corners. I think this is one of the main areas where we would like to develop the bike’.
On the developments in the rear height adjustment device, Dall’Igna commented that he believes it was a particular focus of several manufacturers: ‘It is difficult to talk about technical aspects. We develop everything. The rear height adjustment device is a new tool, it’s not easy, but it’s an area where I think everyone in the paddock worked over the winter to find some improvements’.
Asked to speak more and deeper into the new solutions introduced by Ducati, the engineer wasn’t went much further: ‘It’s difficult to explain why we do something on the bike. At least until we see the exact same things on the other bikes it’s hard to explain what the idea behind the components is’.
