‘Two weeks ago my goal wasn’t the title’ – Marc Marquez

Marc Márquez was clear in setting his 2022 goal as returning to the title after two atypical years. However, before last weekend’s tests at Sepang those weren’t his goals.

After the official presentation of the Repsol Honda Team, the Spaniard explained to the press that the indications of these tests were a reconfirmation that he can assume the goal of being champion: ‘Of course, two weeks ago my objective wasn’t the title because I was injured and neither was training. But now what I felt in Malaysia is that, for me, it was the last reconfirmation that everything was fine because it was a long day, I was very tired… You always have this doubt; the doctors said it wouldn’t be a problem, but I had my doubts’.

Even though he isn’t at 100 percent yet, Márquez believes that, with time, he will get there: ‘I reconfirmed in Malaysia that I was fine. I need more laps and feel fresher on the bike – especially on the second day I felt tired. But this will come with time. From then on, I said: «Why not?». We will start the season from the first race and if you are in the Repsol Honda Team you have to fight for the championship’.
