MotoGP: Fabio Quartararo 3rd in Saturday’s free practice in Portugal

Fabio Quartararo

The reigning MotoGP World Champion of France, Fabio Quartararo, finished third in the free practice session at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Saturday morning, qualifying for the afternoon race.

Miguel Oliveira (KTM) set the best time on the still soggy track of the Algarve circuit in southern Portugal, ahead of Joan Mir (Suzuki) and Quartararo (Yamaha).

Marc Marquez (Honda) fell heavily on his head again after losing control of his bike on the soggy track. The Spanish pilot did not appear to be seriously affected.

Victim of numerous falls in recent months, he has been forced to miss two Grands Prix this year due to vision problems after his accidents. However, he managed to get the 5th time before his fall.

Another victim of the wet track, South African Brad Binder (KTM), got up without difficulty after a long slide. He secured the 4th time of the meeting.

The second Frenchman who entered MotoGP, Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac), achieved the 8th combined time of the three test sessions and will also go directly to Q2.

The two qualifying sessions (Q1 and Q2) could be contested on a dry track even if the weather has been terrible since Friday in Portimao.

However, it is expected to improve gradually, and Sunday’s race is scheduled in dry weather.

Combined classification of the three MotoGP free practice sessions of the Portuguese Grand Prix at the Portimao circuit (4,592 km) held on Friday and Saturday.
