MotoGP, Bagnaia: “Marquez is slow on the straight, pretending to push”

The stand-out rider yesterday, he also proved quick in today’s qualifying, the Italian GP is shaping up to be a good one for Francesco Bagnaia, who qualified directly for Q2 and closed a little more than seven tenths from Marquez.

Pecco and his Pramac Ducati adore Mugello. The current Moto2 champion rides with a smooth, clean style, meaning he’s quite at home around the Tuscan track.

“It was great to get directly into Q2, because it confirms how competitive we are here at Mugello – comments the Italian – I’m pleased with how we’re working, but we need something more. The set-up we’ve found allows me to ride cleanly, but we can do better. Grip on corner exit is the biggest problem right now, but we’re on the right track. We need to choose the rear tire carefully”.

You were fast and made a great pass, to the disadvantage of Marquez.

“Yes I executed a great pass on Marc, but I have to say that Marquez is slow along the straight, pretending to push. This behavior robs you of a valid lap. We need to follow his lead, use his strategy as the example”.

What is your strategy tomorrow?

“The aim in qualifying was to start from at least row three, and we managed it. Tomorrow I need to make the most of my position over the opening laps, keeping pace with my rivals. We want to finish the race, our paces is good, we’re strong and competitive. After Jerez and Le Mans we have taken a step ‘in terms of finding a set-up to suit the Desmosedici, we’ve found the way after trying many things. Now I have it all under control and the Ducati follows me and responds to my commands. It’s the first time I really feel comfortable on the bike, my main aim tomorrow is to finish the race, possibly in the top ten. I always enjoy riding the MotoGP, here at Mugello even more”.
