Yamaha points to debut of the first version of its MotoGP for 2023

Monster Energy Yamaha is once again fighting for the MotoGP titles, with Fabio Quartararo currently leading the riders’ championship. Although the current season is not yet halfway through, it is already starting to think about the 2023 project, and director Massimo Meregalli has addressed the matter.

Asked by GPOne.com whether the YZR-M1 will change next season, the official replied: ‘It will be surely faster. I’m convinced of this because Takahiro Sumi became a development leader and was always very open-minded. He knows which areas are better and worse and has the power to direct development, so I’m sure things will change. The agreement with [Luca] Marmorini is part of this opening, there has never been any external consultancy before. In addition, new people have also arrived from Japan’.

As for the timing of next year’s prototype debut, Jarvis pointed out a date: ‘I think at Misano testing in September we will start testing the first version of the 2023 bike’.
