‘Fabio Quartararo is more mature and is very determined’ – Massimo Meregalli

With the season now in its second half, Fabio Quartararo leads the MotoGP World Championship by a clear 34 points ahead of Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia). Even before the break, the Monster Energy Yamaha team director spoke about the Frenchman’s 2022 career to date, which he is naturally pleased with.

At the team managers’ press conference, the Yamaha official highlighted that the Frenchman has matured and is the only one who is being able to exploit the best qualities of the YZR-M1 to the maximum: ‘As you know, Fabio has a great consistency and probably at this moment he is the only one who can really exploit the strongest points of our bike as much as possible, and he has a very strong feeling with the bike. He is more mature than last year because he has been improving his lap times everywhere we go and he is very determined. When I say mature, it’s because in difficult situations like in Argentina, COTA and Qatar he was disappointed, but not in the wrong way.’

In particular, Meregalli confident that he is impressed with the sequence of his most recent races, including two triumphs on tracks less favorable for Yamaha historically: ‘Since we moved to Europe, he has started to be very focused and fast. What he did in the last three races for me was fantastic because he got those results on very fast circuits, which at the beginning we could not expect. And also at Sachsenring, which is not a very good circuit for Yamaha.’
