‘We stopped thinking about what we didn’t have, but about trying to maximize what we had’ – Massimo Meregalli

The MotoGP season is going well for Monster Energy Yamaha with Fabio Quartararo – who had a virtually immaculate record until his retirement at the Netherlands GP. However, the start was not easy, having difficulties finding the competitiveness he wanted with a YZR-M1 that did not live up to his expectations.

Massimo Meregalli, team manager, explained in a press conference that there was an impact in terms of motivation for not having exactly what he expected. To recover, the secret was to change the thinking:

– The beginning was difficult, difficult also because we were probably waiting for something from Japan that we couldn’t deliver and I think we also lost some motivation. Afterwards, we decided to stop thinking about what we didn’t have, but to try to maximize everything we had.

On the other hand, the official mentioned that there was also some delay in understanding the aerodynamic set: ‘We went to Qatar and the race was not as we expected. We also took some time to understand the new aerodynamics. Then we went to Indonesia, we had a very good result in the rain – circumstances in which we normally don’t perform well’.
