Massimo Meregalli rejects claims MotoGP races are less spectacular

Some voices have been raised, especially amongst the riders, that MotoGP is going through a phase where the races lack spectacle – being difficult to overtake at many circuits, which is attributed to the constant introduction of technical innovations in the bikes.

Massimo Meregalli, Yamaha MotoGP Team Director, rejected that thesis, saying in a press conference that the solutions that have been emerging are largely aimed at improving safety itself:

– Surely in recent years we have introduced many devices, but if you look at safety, the wings and many electronic strategies go in that direction – to bring more safety to the riders. Our bike is very similar to last year’s, and the fact that the races are less fun… I don’t share this point of view.
