Lack of wins at the Red Bull Ring does not scare Fabio Quartararo for the Austrian GP

Fabio Quartararo is back at Spielberg as he continues to lead the MotoGP World Championship and after the Silverstone round where he managed to increase the gap – now 22 points – to Aleix Espargaro by one point.

In an official statement, the #20 admitted he left the previous round disappointed, but knows that at the Red Bull Ring he will be on a level playing field when the starting lights go out. Although he admits that the Austrian track is not the best suited to the characteristics of the YZR-M1, the Frenchman highlights the podiums of 2019 and 2021 to defend the idea that both he and Yamaha can be competitive on Austrian soil.

‘After Silverstone I was a bit disappointed, but I used that energy in a productive way. I’ve been doing a lot of training, and I feel focused and ready for the weekend. With no penalties pending, this GP will feel more ‘normal’. Our only goal is to do the best job we possibly can here. We know Spielberg is not our strongest track, but I got third here in 2019 and 2021. If we keep the right attitude and work hard, we can get good results,’ he said.

It is worth noting that Quartararo has no recorded wins at the Red Bull Ring, not even in the Moto2 and Moto3 categories. Apart from third place in 2019 and 2021 (at the Styrian GP), the rider has a fourth place made in 2016/Moto3. Apart from these three occasions, Quartararo has not made another top five at the circuit that hosts MotoGP this weekend. It should be noted that Yamaha have not won at the Red Bull Ring since 2016, when the track rejoined the championship.
