Jack Miller’s control of the San Marino Grand Prix was short-lived as the Ducati rider crashed out of the lead at Misano World Circuit.

Having claim his first pole position in four long years, Miller looked strong from lights out, but the high temperatures and low grip caught the Ducati riders out, with the Australian the first of three Desmosedici’s to crash out once the race was up to speed – Johann Zarco and Michele Pirro having already succumbed at the first corner.

“I was pushing there in the beginning, trying to at least break up [the group] a little bit,” Miller said of his lap two fall. “Just came in second lap into that tight corner, thought I’d be able to pull it up like I have done most of the weekend – if you get in there a little bit hot you can sort of slide it to the apex, stop the bike and get it out – but I came a little bit wide off turn three. Was on the kerb a little bit, she started bouncing around and yeah, went out from underneath me.

“I wasn’t expecting it. It’s just one of those things when you’re pushing like that, that can happen.

“Picked the bike up, rode it to the end, had no rear brake the whole time so was wrestling it around but nonetheless, I gave it my all. It’s a shame about how short lived our time out front was but anyway we’ll come back at Aragon.

“We’re in good shape, the bike’s working well. Take the positives from this one, try to learn from the negatives and that’s it. I mean, I’m giving it my all week in, week out. These guys are all on a high level, we’re all pushing each other so it’s good to be amongst it.”
