Yamaha try to see the absence of satellite team as an opportunity

In 2023, Yamaha will be in MotoGP without any satellite team after the RNF MotoGP Team joined Aprilia. It will be the only one of the five constructors to rely solely on the factory team, therefore having only two riders and less variety of opinions to help develop the bike.

In a press conference, Yamaha YZR-M1 project leader Kazutoshi Seki was asked what impact having just two riders might have on the development of the bike – in comparison to rivals. In his response, the Japanese engineer commented:

– Honestly, we don’t know because I think this is the first time for Yamaha. But we try to look at this situation as a good opportunity to improve our development, our organization for development. I think we will have several things to consider and try to improve.

Asked if the situation of Yamaha not having a satellite team might change in the future, Seki said: ‘Of course I believe that having a satellite team is important for Yamaha – not only for Yamaha but also for the MotoGP industry. But after a period without a satellite team maybe we can come back with something new with this kind of experience.’
