Pecco Bagnaia outlines mindset ahead of Malaysian GP

Pecco Bagnaia has given some insight into his mindset this weekend as MotoGP heads for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Ducati rider is 14 points clear at the top of the standings after a fine second half of the year that has seen him erode Fabio Quartararo’s lead and eventually take it.

Indeed, he’s now the title favorite with just two races to go, in Malaysia this weekend and then in Valencia at the start of November, and he can seal the title as early as this Sunday if all goes to plan in south-east Asia.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, then, he gave an outline into how he is feeling mentally ahead of what could be a momentous weekend for him:

“In this moment, I’m quite calm, because finally I know that our potential can be high. If we continue working like we did in the second half of the season, we can do a really good job. The main question here is the weather because it looks like it can rain on Saturday and Sunday, but let’s see. It’s always very difficult to predict the weather here, but I think, if we work well, we have a great possibility.

“An Italian has not won the MotoGP title since 2009, and Ducati has not won the riders’ title since 2007. It would be my first title in MotoGP so, for sure, the pressure is there. I feel that I’ll start having pressure, but at this moment, I’m quite happy. I know that we did something really good this year, but we still have to finish the job and my main focus at this moment is on that.”
