After winning the world title last year, Fabio Quartararo went into the 2022 season with renewed hopes. However, the Frenchman was faced with an M1 below his expectations and complained about his bike’s engine before the season started; a time that was marked by the various contract negotiations in MotoGP.

In addition to having managed to guarantee Quartararo for two more years, Yamaha also hired Luca Marmorini – a former Formula1 engineer who worked at Ferrari and Toyota – and did his best to present a better engine for 2023. The tests were positive, in Misano there were even praised, but in the Valencia test this was not the case. Like Franco Morbidelli, Quartararo didn’t have the same feelings on Spanish soil as he had on previous occasions.
