Can Yamaha have Valentino Rossi’s team as a satellite? ‘It’s too early to talk about details, but…’ – Lin Jarvis

In 2023, Yamaha will not have a satellite team and will rely exclusively on data collected from just two bikes on track. The relationship he had with RNF (formerly known as Petronas Yamaha SRT) ended with the end of this year’s championship, as the team led by Razlan Razali signed a contract that allows the Malaysian structure to be a satellite team of Aprilia.

However, Yamaha’s plans for the future are not to continue with two bikes on the track and that is exactly the intention of the manufacturer from Iwata. Speculation surrounding a partnership with the VR46 Racing Team has been talked about in the past, despite Valentino Rossi’s team having a contract with Ducati until the end of 2024.

Regardless of this speculation, Lin Jarvis – Executive Director of Yamaha Motor Racing and ‘Team Principal’ of the MotoGP team – has made clear Yamaha’s desire to have two more bikes on track.

‘It’s too early to talk about details. But Yamaha would like to get back to equipping a satellite team in the MotoGP World Championship as soon as possible. I can confirm this. We want to be back on the grid with four bikes on the grid as soon as possible’, he said interviewed by SPEEDWEEK.com.
