Jorge Martin Needs to Find Consistency in Order to Achieve Success in MotoGP

Jorge Martin, a rookie in the MotoGP championship, made a strong debut during the Lusail double-header in 2021 and showed his potential as a premier-class rider.

However, despite this promising start to his career, Martin missed out on the opportunity to join Ducati’s factory team for 2023, leaving the question of what is next for him.

Jorge Martin’s talent as a rider has never been in doubt. As a Moto3 world champion and a strong competitor in Moto2, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to achieve fast lap times, a sign of true talent in a rider.

His fellow Ducati MotoGP rider, Marco Bezzecchi, can attest to this. Jorge Martin’s success in the Moto3 championship, including seven race wins and an impressive eleven pole positions, indicated his potential for future success.

Martin’s performance

His strong performance in time attack mode while riding a Ducati for Pramac Racing added to this potential. Martin quickly demonstrated his abilities in his second weekend of competition in the top tier of the series at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.

This followed the first round of the season at the same location, as the series continued to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Martin lived up to expectations by securing the pole position and then went on to earn a podium finish in the race, coming in behind Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco, his teammate.

Since his impressive debut in Qatar, Martin’s performance in the MotoGP series has had its ups and downs, including numerous crashes and injuries. Despite his first win later that year at the Red Bull Ring, it could be argued that Martin has not made significant progress in the series.

One factor in this could be the lingering effects of a serious high-speed crash at Portimao shortly after his first podium in Qatar.

Martin’s Progress till now

In addition to the physical impact of his crashes, Martin has also struggled with finishing races consistently in his two seasons in the MotoGP class.

While he is frequently fast on the track, he has a tendency to fall and make mistakes, as he did in Malaysia in November of 2022. To become a top competitor, Martin will need to overcome this tendency and become more reliable.

Despite making his debut in the MotoGP series two seasons ago, Martin has not made significant progress in his career and has gained a reputation for being a talented but inconsistent racer.

This reputation may have cost him the opportunity to move to the factory Ducati team in 2023, as Enea Bastianini was chosen for the role due to his impressive performance in the 2022 season. Some within the MotoGP community believe that Martin has the potential to perform at a higher level than Bastianini.
