In MotoGP, Joan Mir will miss the Silverstone GP, but not Misano for testing

Joan I will not be participating in the UK Grand Prix which is due to take place on Sunday at the Silverstone circuit. The Spanish rider sustained an injury in the Brno Tests that forced him to miss the Austrian GP and recover for two weeks.

His presence in England has been ruled out as he has not fully recovered from a pulmonary contusion, along with the general weakness caused by not being able to exercise after the accident.

A mutual decision was made by the rider himself, the internal medicine doctors at Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona – under the direction of Ángel Charte (Medical Director of the MotoGP World Championship) – and the Suzuki team.

A new set of tests was done, including x-rays, to see how its lung recovers. Although Mir’s test results and general health conditions were good as a precaution, the doctors advised the driver not to hurry run, but to start normally in order to improve his physical condition and be able to take part in the next Grand Prix.

After an assessment of Mir’s condition, Dr. Angel Charter stated: “After the tests we did, we We discovered some residue in his lungs and to be sure we think it is best for him to recover completely before racing again. “

Joan returned home where he can begin active rehabilitation. “After several weeks of inactivity, he now needs to regain his lung capacity and improve his general health. To do this, he can walk, run, do some mountain exercises, and exercise, but in moderation,” he added to The Doctor.

At the Silverstone, Team Suzuki will replace the driver from Mallorca with test driver Sylvain Guintoli currently doing official tests at the Kymiring circuit near Kouvola in Finldand.

Team managerDavide Brivio, commented: “It’s a real shame that Joan is going to miss the Silverstone race too, but we believe it is very important that he fully recover and be 100% fit again. After talking to the doctors we all decided he was going to miss the UK Grand Prix but could get back on his bike next week. The Misano test is an excellent opportunity for him to check his physical condition and slowly move on. This test will also be a once in a lifetime opportunity to prepare for the next GP and we hope we have a Joan at its best for the Misano weekend ready to start his season where it left off. Therefore, our test driver Sylvain Guintoli, who is currently testing in Finland, will replace Joan and we will try to use this weekend to gather very valuable information. “

Joan Mir declared: “In the end I won’t be able to go to Silverstone for the next race and it’s a real shame, but that’s the way it is. My health must be a priority. After the accident, I rested for a few weeks, first in the hospital, then at home. I started running but after the follow-up exams it looks like I’m not 100% okay yet. The doctors have therefore decided that I should continue my rehabilitation. It will start to train a bit so that I can get to the next race in better physical shape and not have to take too many risks. I want to thank those who support and take care of me, my team, Suzuki, for their concern and the thousands of fans who have encouraged me all these days and who have shown me a lot of affection. Bye for now!”.
