MotoGP, Joan Mir in the hospital until Monday

Joan Mir will watch the Austrian Grand Prix from a hospital bed. The Suzuki driver was involved in a violent fall during tests in Brno last Monday and was able to return to Spain after an initial examination in the Czech Republic, where he was admitted to the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona.

The diagnosis was severe pulmonary contusion and Joan is due at least until Monday as MotoGP Medical Director, Dr. Angel Charte, stay in the hospital, explained.

“We performed cranial, thoracic, and abdominal CT scans with contrast. Both the cranial and abdominal CT scans were normal. We have not observed any involvement or damage to any vital organ or blood in the abdominal cavity. However, the chest CT showed lung contusion, mainly on the right side. Although his lungs are working well, there is still a major bruise that requires rest and observation in the hospital with daily tests, “explained Dr. Charte.

“”Together with my team, we decided to keep him in the hospital until Monday. Then we will do another test to see if the bruise has healed and if that happens he can go home“concluded the doctor.
