Joan Mir signed as a works driver with Team Suzuki Ecstar for 2019 and 2020

Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced Joan Mir as a factory rider in MotoGP with the Suzuki Ecstar team for the 2019 and 2020 season as a partner of Alex Rins on board the Factory GSX-RR. The two-year contract enables the 20-year-old Spaniard to debut in the top class after just one year in the intermediate class.

I will be replaced by the Italian driver Andrea Iannone from the Suzuki Ecstar team. In the meantime, Aprilia has announced that Iannone will replace Scott Redding on his factory team next year.

I made my debut at the 2015 World Championship, the Australian GP in the Moto3 class and competed in the same class in 2016 and 2017. In 2016 he made three podiums with a first, a second and a third place. Most of all, he got the confidence he needed to be absolutely fit and ready to fight for the title next year. The following year gave him ten wins, two second places and one third place for a total of 13 podiums (with 1 pole position) 341 points and the 2017 Moto3 World Champion crown.

In his debut year in Moto2, in which he is now racing, he already achieved two podiums (both in third place) at Le Mans and Mugello a few weeks ago and is currently fifth in the overall standings.
