Suzuki extends MotoGP contract for the next five years

MotoGP: The news that Suzuki’s factory tour is continuing is extremely positive, especially after a hugely successful period that led to brilliant results last year

Dorna Sports announced today that it has signed an agreement with Suzuki Motor Corporation to extend its participation in the FIM MotoGP World Championship for the period from the 2022 season to the 2026 season. As a result, Suzuki Motor Corporation will use its factory team – actually known as Team Suzuki Ecstar – in the MotoGP class of the MotoGP World Championship.

Suzuki’s racing history began in 1960 when he entered the Isle of Man’s legendary Tourist Trophy. Last year the brand from Hamamatsu in Japan celebrated its 100th anniversary, along with the milestone of 60 years in racing.

The news that Suzuki’s factory tour is continuing is extremely positive, especially after a hugely successful period that led to brilliant results last year. Suzuki’s Spanish pairing of Joan Mir and Alex Rins finished 1st and 3rd in the championship standings, which means that both MotoGP rider and team titles were won with great success.

“As Suzuki Motor Corporation, we are proud to continue participating in the MotoGP World Championship as we all share the challenging ambition to compete against the world’s best motorcycle competition,” said Shinichi Sahara, project leader and team director.

“We started this new journey in 2015 and in just six years we achieved the Riders ‘World title along with the teams’ title. We are still hungry for more success. For these reasons we have extended our agreement with Dorna, with the hope and commitment to further develop the technical and racing side of the company. “

“We are very pleased with the renewal of the contract with Suzuki, a factory with which we have competed in the World Championship for years and which enjoy a great working relationship. Her return to MotoGP in 2015 was an instant success, which was confirmed by the culmination of winning the World Drivers Championship in 2020 with Joan Mir. We are proud to extend this partnership and hope to continue setting milestones with this cult brand, ”said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports.
