Holgado Fastest all day in the final of the Valencia 2 Rookies

While Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup winner Pedro Acosta was knocking the dirt out of his Alpinestars leather and the mechanics were busy converting his KTM RC 250 R, Daniel Holgado calmly took pole position for the last two races of the season.

Fifteen-year-old Holgado was at the forefront of timing all day and when his compatriot, 16-year-old Acosta, tried to finish that run, he was kicked off the pitch. He got out later in the session, but his previous first flying lap, which was before his fall, was his fastest and good enough for second on the grid.

So Holgado is in shape to keep up with last Sunday’s first cup win, and last Saturday’s winner, 16-year-old David Salvador, completes the all-Spanish front row.

Holgado the man on a mission

“I’m very happy about my first Rookies Cup pole. I had a good feeling with the bike right from the start of FP1. The bike was great during FP2 and qualifying. “

“After the last week, when we didn’t have any dry sessions, we raised the rear of the bike and that gave me more grip when accelerating, so I’m very confident going into the race. I’ll try to win again, ”he concluded with cheeky self-confidence.

Acosta ready for battle

“I drove so fast on my first flying lap. I saw 41.7 and thought if I do 1.7 on the first round I can do 0.9 or 1.0. I think I put the brakes on late and quickly in the bend, gave full throttle too early and was highsided. “

“The guys did an amazing job converting the bike so I could get back out there and do a few laps, they are great professionals. I’m fine and I have a good feeling about the race. Dani (Holgado) was so quick today, but tomorrow I think I can break the group with him. “

Salvador not fast enough

“I’m very satisfied with qualifying because in FP1 we changed the settings from last weekend and I didn’t like it, I didn’t have a good feeling on the brakes. So we changed again and it was much better. “

“I’m happy with the good feeling, but I’m not that happy with the lap time. It’s not that fast, ”explained Salvador, who is 0.435 seconds behind pole. “But I start from the front row and think that I can fight for victory.”

Izan Guevara, to go out in style

“I’m really happy about fourth place and I can fight in the group tomorrow,” enthused Izan Guevara, the 16-year-old Spaniard who already has a Moto3 World Championship contract for 2021. “It’s my last weekend in the Rookies Cup, I won here on the last CEV weekend, so I want to win on my last Rookies Cup weekend.”

Mario Aji again the fastest non-Spaniard

“I’m very happy because I didn’t have a good time at the beginning of the session,” said Mario Aji, the 16-year-old Indonesian. “I got faster, but there were a lot of drivers who weren’t going fast and I think the tire temperature started to drop, but I did it.”

“We tried a lot of different settings today, I’m not sure it’s perfect, but I’ll try to get on the podium tomorrow.”
