Brad Binder from SA was named MotoGP Rookie of the Year 2020

Brad Binder has won the 2020 MotoGP Rookie of the Year title.

We had high hopes that South Africa’s MotoGP star Brad Binder would finish strong in the season finale on Sunday (November 22nd), but that shouldn’t be the case. Nevertheless, the local hero made his country immensely proud in his first season in the premium class.

Binder started the race from thirteen on the grid in Portimao and unfortunately retired early in the race. He finished the season in eleventh place overall, not bad at all!

Despite being out of the Grande Premio Meo de Portugal MotoGP race, Red Bull KTM rider Binder managed to hold enough championship points (87 points) to beat competitor Alex Marques (74 points) and officially become the rookie of the To be chosen in 2020.

This year’s MotoGP races held in one of the most exciting seasons in MotoGP racing with an unprecedented nine different winners in the 14 races, including Binder with a win in the third race in Brno, Czech Republic. Fans literally on the edge of the seat.

Binder said after the race: “All in all, my rookie year has come to an end and we managed to get the Rookie of the Year Award, which was a goal at the beginning of the season. It was a tough but fantastic season with great ups and downs!

“I think all of that will make me be a stronger driver next season.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone in the pits and the entire team. The feeling is great and we are sure to have a competitive package.”
