The rookie crashed at Turn 7 in the final stages of Saturday’s FP3 session on the Algarve circuit. The Spaniard had to be tolerated off the track and taken to the hospital for control.
Martin had fractured his right hand and ankle and was disfellowshipped for the remainder of the Portimao weekend.
He flew to Barcelona on Sunday afternoon and was due to have an operation on Monday at the Quiron Clinic with Doctor Xavier Mir and his team.
However, due to the severe blow to his head, his surgery was likely to be postponed to Wednesday on the advice of his doctors.
A representative from Martins told Motorsport.com’s Spanish language website that the Pramac driver is unlikely to be racing at the Spanish GP this weekend.
“The most important thing now is that Jorge recovers,” said the representative.
“First you have to operate him and see how the post-operative phase goes, but we are in no hurry, if he has to wait until Le Mans, we will wait.
“We are not going to rush the operation because we are in Jerez, he has to recover first.
“I think it is very difficult for him to be in the Spanish Grand Prix at the moment, I almost rule it out.
“Although nothing is ever 100 percent certain about these things.”
