Marquez “considered” the MotoGP comeback to Jerez. to pause

The six-time MotoGP World Champion returned to action in Portugal last month after a nine-month hiatus due to a badly broken right arm at the 2020 Spanish GP.

Marquez finished seventh in the dry in Portugal and ninth in Jerez.

Ahead of this weekend’s Italian GP in Mugello – which he expects will not be “the best weekend” due to the physical nature of the track – Marquez announced that he is considering making his comeback to Jerez due to the pain in his shoulder cancel.

“No, actually we do speak and it was an opportunity to quit after Jerez, for example,” he said when asked if he thought he had returned to racing too early.

“And we thought about it and talked to the doctors and everything, but in the end even the doctors said it was good in my life, in my racing mode, to ride a motorcycle that is MotoGP – because you can ride bikes a lot, but am In the end, you have to ride the road bike if you want to improve.

“The thing is, when you break the humerus, the humerus is connected to the shoulder which I had surgery on in the past and maybe not 100% but worked well like 2020 in Jerez.

“Now the humerus is ready to squeeze, but now when you take another step after this major injury, little things will come.

“That doesn’t mean the shoulder is in a really, really bad situation.

“I mean, the shoulder has something that is not working properly and we try to understand why the pain gets worse on the weekend, even at home, the pain is always there.

“We need to understand, but doctors say that after a humeral fracture it is normal for the shoulder or elbow to be affected, and it’s true that there are some things that come off the shoulder that make me more riding to disturb .”

Marquez was able to improve his training ahead of the Italian GP by riding a 600cc Supersport motorcycle to understand his riding position – and found that he was unable to ride in his normal posture due to the pain in his shoulder.

“I rode this type of bike to understand my situation and my position on the MotoGP bike. I don’t ride well, I’m not in a good position,” he added.

“I chose this type of bike to try to understand the best position, but immediately I understand that I cannot ride in a good position because when I ride in a good position the pain is in the Shoulder much stronger.

“So we check all things at home and here on the track to understand our future.”
