The MotoGP World Champion’s 1: 59.317 minutes gave him a lead of 0.512 seconds over Ducati’s Jack Miller in FP2 after recovering from a violent fall that caused him to twist an ankle earlier in the session.
Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin continued to impress with third place in FP2 ahead of a resurgent Repsol Honda duo at Pol Espargaro and Marc Marquez. But Marquez had to go to the hospital to have his eyes cleaned after a high-speed crash at Maggotts in the first training session.
Francesco Bagnaia took sixth place in FP2 on the other Ducati factory bike, ahead of Aprilias Aleix Espargaro and the Austrian GP winner Brad Binder on the KTM.
Alex Rins, the final MotoGP winner at Silverstone in 2019, took ninth place for Suzuki while Valentino Rossi completed the top 10 and preliminary Q2 automatic spots for Petronas SRT Yamaha ahead of Saturday’s FP3 session.

When does qualifying for the British MotoGP start?
Qualifying for the British MotoGP begins at 2:10 p.m. BST (2:10 p.m. local time) in the regular Q1 and Q2 session format. Qualifying takes place immediately after the 30-minute FP4 session, which is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. BST (1:30 p.m. local time).
The 10 fastest MotoGP riders on the combined FP1-2-3 timesheet automatically go into Q2, while the rest of the riders enter Q1 of qualifying. The two riders fastest in the 15 minute Q1 session will enter Q2 to compete with the top 10 from practice. Q2, which also lasts 15 minutes, decides on pole position and the qualifying sequence for the first four rows on the grid.
