Jack Miller drove his “best race so far” in MotoGP when he impressed with a mature run to third place in the season finale in Valencia.

Miller ended where he started when world champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and pole sitter Fabio Quartararo (Petronas SRT Yamaha) swapped places to fill the podium.

The Australian was leading in Turn 1 thanks to a rapid start before Marquez and Quartararo made it clear to him in the first few laps.

Unlike the last race in Malaysia, Miller stayed in the lead and maintained a steady pace.

While Marquez would clinch a sovereign twelfth win of the season, Miller was certainly third in the Pramac entry when he left the works Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso behind.

Miller, who was already the premier class race winner after his victory in Assen in 2016, rated the race on Sunday as his best performance of his MotoGP career.

It was Miller’s fifth podium of the season, the 24-year-old finished eighth overall with 165 points.

“I think I made up for it last week in Malaysia when I disappeared backwards,” Miller told the program after the race.

“I think this is my best race so far … constant and stayed there.

“I was chasing Fabio, I made a few mistakes in the middle part of the race and then came up to him again.

“I had the feeling that I would have gotten a second wind there for a while because I had more grip on the tires.

“It was a great race for both of them, flawless, we all just pounded out there.

“It was a long but fun race, they go fast when you are constantly chasing someone. It was fantastic.”
