Misano MotoGP: Valentino Rossi’s crew to leave SRT 2022 for VR46 | MotoGP

Valentino Rossi may not switch from SRT to racing for his new VR46 MotoGP team next season and instead choose to retire, but the three crew members who joined Petronas Yamaha by his side this year will be making the switch .

Crew boss David Munoz, data technician Matteo Flamigni and trainer Idalio Gavira will take on all roles in the VR46 Ducati team, which Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi will use in their debut season as a full entry into the premier class.

“I don’t know if it’s official, but I think my team – David, Matteo – will work with us [at VR46]. I think one of them with my brother and the other with Bezzecchi, “said Rossi.

“Idalio Gavira, my coach, will also work for us and coach both drivers. [All three] I have a lot of experience working at the top so it’s good to have that experience for our team. “

Rossi has worked with Flamigni since joining Yamaha in 2004, while Munoz was named crew chief for The Doctor from 2020 after impressing with the VR46 team in Moto2, including winning the title with Francesco Bagnaia in 2018 .

Munoz’s departure means the new RNF Yamaha team, which will take over the SRT grid slots and satellite Yamaha machines from 2022, will have to find a new crew chief for rookie Darryn Binder.
