No good news from Austin which, along with the rest of the United States, is dealing with the Coronavirus epidemic these days. With an official statementthe City of Austin has declared a “state of local disaster” and is starting to take action in order to avoid contagion. There are currently no cases of Covid-19 in the city, but every precaution is being taken to prevent them.
Scheduled from March 13th to 22nd in Austin, South by Southwest, an event that deals with film, music, and interactive media, and which attracts more than 70,000 people worldwide, has already been canceled.
At this point, everyone is concerned about the Grand Prix of the Americas, scheduled for April 5th. The race is currently confirmed, but it was Dorna’s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, who recently clarified how the situation is “unpredictable” and “changes from day-to-day.”
Hopefully, the MotoGP season will be able to start in the USA, but there are no certainties for now. Dorna is working on alternative solutions. One would be to anticipate a GP in Spain and start the championship in Europe. But making long-term plans is practically impossible.
