MotoGP, No damage to ligaments for Bagnaia: “I want to be the star”

Pecco Bagnaia had left Portimao with a doubt about the conditions of his right shoulder: “I’ll have to get an MRI. It seems like there’s something missing in my ligaments,” he had said after the race. When he returned to Italy, he went to the hospital for the test, and the results were comforting. He still feels pain, but his ligaments are fine.

The Ducati rider won’t be in perfect shape for the Jerez weekend, but he’ll be able to race. Last year, the circuit named after Angel Nieto, had been good to the Ducatis, winning with Miller and Bagnaia with the complicity of Quartararo, who stopped racing due to compartment syndrome right when he was dominating.

The two Ducati riders would need a result similar to the 2021 one in order to get their season back on track. Pecco seems more confident on the GP22 lately, but he has never managed to achieve a result that meets his standards.

“After the fall in qualifying in Portugal, these few days off were very important for me to rest and recover my strength,” Bagnaia said before arriving in Jerez. “Notwithstanding the pain and the fact that we hadn’t been able to lap a lot with the slicks, we were almost Sunday in the race, and we were able to meet the goal we had set for ourselves. This proves that we’re working well and that, race after race, my feeling with the Desmosedici GP continues to improve. Now we’re going to Jerez, where we got on the podium last year, with the aim of finally being among the stars of the weekend.”

That’s what Miller hopes too, after his fall in Portugal that also involved Joan Mir.

“I’m happy to get back on the track this weekend and be able to leave Portimão behind me. Jerez is a track I like and where I certainly have great memories after last year’s victory, my first on the Ducati right after my fall in the Portuguese GP,” Jack recalled.”It would be nice to be able to get a victory again this year. Racing in Spain is always special, because Spanish fans are very passionate and make the atmosphere unique. I’ll try to do my best to get the best possible result.”
