Right off the podium from the inaugural round in Qatar and the fastest KTM rider in the line-up today, Brad Binder got the best result ever in qualifying. At the end of the Q2 at the Mandalika Street International Circuit, the rider of the official Austrian team reached a brilliant 4th position with a time of 1’31”433, just 55 thousandths of a second from the front row.
“Today was a difficult day for all of us. The conditions of the track have changed considerably compared to the tests last February. This morning, in the FP3, the asphalt never completely dried out, and so I did a few laps only in the final minutes. I preferred to avoid taking unnecessary risks in view of the qualifications,” he said.
In the FP4, you didn’t appear particularly incisive. What didn’t work?
“The FP4 was a real disaster. We still have to analyze what happened. The bike didn’t behave at all as we expected. I struggled a lot. I don’t know what we need to do to solve these problems. Unfortunately, we don’t have adequate answers at the moment. So we definitely have to work a lot for the race.”
Are you confident about tomorrow’s race?
“Yes. In any case, I’m confident for tomorrow. I expect a fight and a good race. Regardless of the FP4, I feel really good on the bike. In the warm up tomorrow morning, we’ll dispel the last doubts .I think I can handle the race distance, despite the scorching heat. If we could best preserve the tires, we could certainly do well,” hey concluded.
